Rick Baker Conjures MAC’s Makeup Ghouls

Rick Baker, Steampunk Frankenstein

It’s Christmas in October! Well it was  for me a few nights ago because I was given the chance to attend Rick Baker’s Halloween party. The best part of it all….IT WAS IN HIS STUDIO. Yes, I geeked out majorly because Mr. Baker has been featured in credits for legendary productions such as Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller, and  How The Grinch Stole Christmas, just to name a few for his work in special effects makeup.

The ghoulish party was an event to celebrate Rick’s recent collaboration with MAC Cosmetics, who’ve released a collection based on three monster looks. Can you guess the three creepy creatures?

When one is invited to a Halloween bash hosted by an epic monster maker, you can expect some of the most amazing costumes. This statement was fulfilled to its capacity. In attendance, there was the delightful Kelly Osbourne as the lilac hair -colored comedy queen Dame Edna along with Andy Garcia who was in full Dia De Los Muertos costume. However the crowd favorite had to be internet famous, Grumpy Cat who was caught several times on the dance floor getting his boogie on.

Grumpy Cat says NOPE!

As for myself, this has had to be one of the best parties I have attended during Halloween! The event had a bunch of creative makeup artist together, an awesome DJ who played all the right tunes from films like ‘Ghostbusters’, and a tour of Rick Baker’s studio that was such a kind gesture of him. It was a complete honor to have been invited and I can’t wait to create my own monster look with MAC goodies I received at the end of the night!  Check out more images from the party below!

App That Changed My Social Media Life ‘PHOSTER’

You know that feeling that you get when you discover something so amazing you heart begins to race and you palms get sweaty? Well this might sound ultra nerdy but I get that feeling and I am majorly in love with this app called Phoster.

Developed by Bucketlabs, this app is most useful to me because I can cheat my way out of Illustrator or Photoshop. HA! I dont need to stress too much about typography either, so its a very relieving for something like this to be so easy!

Check it out and download it for $1.99 on iTunes

Here are a few I have made

Lucky Fabb Confernce PLUS LeSportsac x Dylans Candy Bar Bags

Holey moley donuts you guys! I had no idea that attending this years Lucky Fabb (West) was going to be so amazing. Because I have an awesome boss who introduced me to this event, The Stylesmith and I headed out to the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hill to meet with over 300 hand-selected beauty and fashion bloggers.

Now…the first thing I had to know about the conference was about the key-note speakers and industry panelists.

Day one  was Ms. Kelly Osborne who was grown into an inspiring bad ass female. Kelly was sweet on stage sharing her work experience at E!’s Fashion Police of tackling her co-workers and opening up of how her mother Sharon taught Kelly how to dress and discover a style. But the most memorable quote of Ms. Kelly O was “I get told everyday I should die for my opinion but I don’t care” … YUP. I told you she was a badass.

Now I want to tell you about my favorite thing spotted at this event. Are you ready? It’s the LeSportsac and Dylans Candy Bar collaboration! For those who’ve never been to a Dylan’s Candy Bar…girl let me tell you. It is the sweetest place on earth filled with all your favorite cavity inducing products that you love. I’ve been to their New York location where they serve delicious alcoholic candy drinks and it was definitely the most memorable thanks to that HOT TAMALE shot.

What is fabulous about this collaboration is that your daily life will be filled with fashionable sugar sweets! Sadly the bags aren’t edible 😉 instead they are made with LeSportsac’s rip-stop nylon that is lightweight and durable. I honestly cannot wait til this releases online! Their price points are from $18-$138 so check them out online.

Welcome to LA Wild Style via Joyrich

Mademoiselle Yulia the Jack of All Trades

If you can’t get enough of the bright shocking and pop culture styles of Joyrich  then you should make your way across the street to Wild Style,  located at  7703 Melrose Ave. The opening of the consisted of a massive amount of loyal Joyrich fans including your celebrity guests such as Chris Brown, Japanese singer AI, and designer Onch checking out the stores merchandise.  My “highlight of the night” moment was meeting the designer, singer, and dj herself Mademoiselle Yulia who influenced me to dye my hair earlier this year. And WOW her style is terribly too cool. Not only did she dj her set during the party but she also performed her single “Gimmie Gimmie” that left the crowd wanting more.

The question now is why would Joyrich open up another store? Well Wild Style is there to serve up striking clothing with a mash of high-end designer such as Vivienne Westwoood and Gerlan Jeans to name a few. Since Joyrich only carries their in-house brands, Wild Style is meant for those who love all things related such as more Jeremy Scott.

I definitely loved and enjoyed the night! Thank you and much love to the Joyrich and Wild Style team.

Two of the funniest guys I have met

LA Fashion Council : Odylyne

Clean, simple, and delicate as a butterfly. Odylyne presented their Spring 2013 collection at The Carondelet House in downtown LA. Hosted by the Los Angeles Fashion Council, I was very excited to be in a new venu  and see new designs. This was indeed the first time that LAFC produced their own show during Los Angeles Fashion Week and I think it’s safe to say that it went better than great. Guest in attendance were your local press Apparel News, Womens Wear Daily, and LA Weekly along with bloggers Oliva Lopez and Bethany Struble.

The lightness of each piece in the collection leaves me in complete admiration as if a modern fairy would have this in her wardrobe. I can even see it on a bohemian bride. Odylyne’s talent undoubtedly stunning and I am sure Los Angeles is looking forward to seeing more from the designer. Make up was done by Cinema Makeup. Gorgeous right?

Frankenweenie: Brought Back to Life

From my constant attendance at the Disney Parks, I am always on the hunt for something new and exciting.

Brought back to life was Frankenweenie by Tim Burton. Originally a short released in 1984, it was turned into a live action film all in black and white. The park currently has an exclusive exhibition to all ticket holders that allows you to take a look at how the film was created. Presented amazingly, the exhibit takes you through the iconic sets of the film such as Mr. Rzykruski classroom who looks remarkably like Vincent Price (clearly). One detail I appreciated was the most perfect lighting for photos. Just look at it!

I am super excited to see this film debut October 5th and I am sure my fellow Tim Burton fans are as equally ecstatic.

Shinsen Gumi Japanese Festival

Shin-Sen-Gumi hosted their matsuri ( Japanese Festival) this past weekend filled with musical performances and delicious food! I am a super fan of Japanese food such as  yakisoba and takoyaki therefore I was in heaven.

Attendees that were non-Japanese like myself got to see the community open up and show their culture through the festivities. My favorite part of the day was seeing the Koul Taiko Team perform where they incorporate elaborate choreography and pretty dancers to their drumming. I have never been so amazed!

Sadly this matsuri does not happen until another five years, but I definitely recommend to stop by any Shin-Sen-Gumi restaurant. You won’t be disappointed.
